Start Afresh, Spark a Flash -- IMES welcomes new batch on the northeast coast

In order to enhance new students’ team spirit, the IMES program (International Master’s Program of Applied Economics and Social Development) of the College of Social Sciences held a one-day team building activity in Magang Village located at the easternmost coast of Taiwan on September 23, 2023.

In the activity center of the small fishing village, Director Jack Wu and Professor Alicia Say led students to accomplish various team’s missions to build the team coordinative spirit. In the end, professor Say designed a so-called “back to zero” game for new students. She used this game to encourage new students to start afresh and begin a new journey of learning and exploration.

IMES student council also led students to join warm-up icebreaker games on the bus. New students from different countries could therefore get to know each other quickly. In 2023, there are 20 new students joining the program. Besides 7 Taiwanese students, there are 13 international students from 9 countries including USA, Germany, France, Japan, Korea, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Eswatini.

The IMES program is an interdisciplinary program in which students come from diverse academic backgrounds. Moreover, professors in the program are not only from the college of social sciences, but also from ICI and Academia Sinica.

College of Social Sciences is one of the main bilingual colleges at National Chengchi University. As an international master’s program, IMES has the responsibility to design and offer more quality courses taught in English to NCCU students. The program is committed to continue our best effort to recruit more talented Taiwanese and international students to join our international family.
