Learning Mandarin
Taiwan is an ideal place for international students who want to learn Mandarin Chinese. An immersive environment is essential for students who wish to learn a new language. Taiwan has a long history of teaching Chinese and well-trained language teachers to help students become fluent. According to the Ministry of Education, more than 18,000 foreigners come to Taiwan to learn Chinese yearly.

The NCCU Chinese Language Center offers a variety of courses that adapt to the student’s needs.
Regular courses are offered all year round over four terms (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer) on a 12-week basis with a total of 180 hours for Fall, Spring and Summer terms. The Winter term runs for 10 weeks with a total of 150 hours. The daily class in the morning is from 8:10 to 11:00 am or 12:10-15:00 in the afternoon.
Full-time students are placed into four levels (Beginner, Intermediate, High-Intermediate and Advanced) based on their language proficiency.
1-on-1 classes are available upon request on weekdays from 8:10-17:00. The content of the course will be agreed upon by the teacher and the student after a thorough discussion.
Online lessons are available for both 1-on-1 and small groups. Online 1-on-1 lessons are arranged based on the student’s needs. Online group courses are run over four terms (spring, summer, fall, and winter). Each term offers a 10-12 weeks program.
Workshops, activities and field trips are organized to provide students with opportunities to integrate culturally and socially with local students. Instructors in the program are highly qualified professionals with years of experience in teaching Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language to individuals with various linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
NCCU Part-Time Mandarin Courses
NCCU also offers a Part-time Mandarin course for international students with a limited budget. The course has to be selected during the course selection period along with the rest of courses. Students are divided into beginners and advanced based on their Mandarin proficiency. The course covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
No credit will be given for this course, which means the credits will not be recognized as graduation credits. This course has compulsory attendance and students who are absent for over 9 hours will fail the course.
