IMES Welcomes New Batch with Cultural Exploration and Team Building Activity in Tamsui

In order to enhance new students’ team spirit and build cohesion, the IMES program (International Master’s Program of Applied Economics and Social Development) of the College of Social Sciences held a one-day cultural visit and team building activities in Tamsui on September 21, 2024.

New IMES students, current students, and exchange students of the IMES program were invited to participate in this event. In the morning, the students visited Hobe Fort, Tamsui Itteki Memorial House, and Fort San Domingo. Students enjoyed lunch at Tamsui Old Street. Despite the continuous rain on the day of the event, it did not dampen the students’ enthusiasm for cultural exploration and communicating with each other.

In the afternoon, team building activities were held at the activity center in Tamsui, organized by the IMES Student Council. Students participated in various group activities, followed by answering questions in teams and completing team’s missions. Through sharing and cooperation, students who were initially unfamiliar became acquainted by the end of the event.

IMES is a fully English taught postgraduate program emphasizing interdisciplinary studies. Students in the IMES program are trained to utilize big data to analyze economic and social issues. They can choose specific fields to concentrate on, including trade, public finance, financial markets, labor, real estate, sustainability, and the sharing economy.

Additionally, they can learn from Taiwan’s experiences in economic development, particularly through the success of its innovative and semiconductor industries. Furthermore, students can explore new trends in social development, such as digitalization and AI.

The student body of the program consists of one third Taiwanese students and two-thirds international students. The current international students in the program come from more than a dozen countries, including Germany, France, the Czech Republic, the United States, Colombia and several other Asian and African countries.
